Death Penalty
Dont you just hate it, i think they should have an update that reduces it by 1 or 2% every 30 seconds or so, it would help alot. Give me you opinions :P

One of the things I like best about this game is the death penalty.
I think it's too light if anything. Too many people try to death roll monsters to death.
I like that you have to defeat enemy to reduce the DP. If it was just time then people would take a drink break to get even.

There are certain places already where you can pay for morale, to not only clear death penalty but to get up to +10% morale boost. Then buy a nice blessing for continual +3 health regen... people want to have it too easy.

IMO DP should be less. Instead of 15 I think it should be 10. I'm sure most will disagree tho.

I'm another one of those who thinks the DP is quite light. After playing UO for several years, I'm used to dieing and being rezzing naked and without any supplies at all. To me, rezzing with all your equip and such is a convenience. But I'm probably one of the few that think that.

i think you should lose one of your skills, like it just greys out. then reduce the Dp to 5%, this would stop most of the 60%Dp hunting as you would have no skill at that point.

The DP is this game has got to be one of the lightest around. I'm way too used to game where you die and all your equipment goes bye bye. Or where you suffer a huge penalty in your skills/attributes. The 15% is perfect because it prevents you from continously suiciding through an area while still allowing you to die once or twice.

The current DP system is nearly perfect. I remember some of the beta weekends where they were still tweaking it, and it was pretty bad - during one weekend, I remember almost never being able to work off DP, even if I was killing bosses. I was stuck with the DP until we either beat the mission or got returned to town. With the current system, it's fairly easy to work off DP when fighting monsters that are close to your level, since it's based on XP. Morale bonuses for killing bosses or heroes in PvP also do a nice job of evening things out.
A DP system that disabled skills would be extremely unbalanced. Classes that don't rely on skills like Warrior would be at a significant advantage with DP compared to a Monk or Necromancer with DP. Additionally, people could exploit the system by placing their more important skills at the bottom/top (assuming the DP went down one skill at a time), or if the system randomly selected a skill to disable, some people might get 'lucky' and never get skills they need disabled, while your monk might get unlucky and have his resurrect spell be the first one to get the axe.

I used to play Runescape (The graphics are crap, and the gameplay is simple..but I enjoyed it. ) and the death penalty teleported you back to the starting city with only your 3 most valuable items..
If you attacked anyone to initiate PvP then died within 20 minutes of doing so, you lost everything. (Even your armour, and the oh so pointless 20 million gp items people seemed to enjoy wearing. )
So all in all..I think we get a pretty sweet deal in Guild Wars.

Leave it alone.

It's a good death penalty, you can actually tell when you have it, but it isn't game-breaking. I think it should be left alone.

It's good. It discourages carelessness and corpse running, but it also isn't harsh enough to be unfun.

The death penalty is one of the core factors of PvP. The objective is to either win, or get your enemies to 60% DP so they can't auto-rez and stand in the way of your glorious victory. There's no reason why you should be getting a DP. It means you're losing. And if you're getting it in PvE, well... There's no excuse for that. PvE is far too easy.
